Passing The Day Away in Raleigh, NC

My hubby went to the monthly Fossil Club meeting at the Raleigh Museum of Natural Science today so I rode with him.  He wanted to go to the Outback for dinner when he finished his meeting.  I needed to go to Michael's since they have 30% off of your entire regular priced order so it was a win win situation.  Someone, and I won't call any names, ahmmmm, has gotten me hooked on cross stitching all over again so I went to purchase some more Aida fabrics while I could get it 30% off!  I cross stitched heavily back in the 80's and 90's.  My best friend Debbie and I would spend countless hours stitching away and just chatting.  If we weren't cross stitching, we were hand quilting.  I miss those days!

I am not interested in fossil collecting so I took along my knitting to keep me entertained.  His meeting lasted over 3 hours so I was able to get quite a bit completed.  I put my cell phone on speaker and called my sister.  She was crocheting today so we crafted together for over 2 hours!  I am so glad I have over 2,000 roll over minutes. lol

I have had this afghan on the needle for far too long so it will stay out by my chair and I will make a concentrated effort to have it finished by the end of winter.


 I will leave you with the Raleigh skyline at night.  isn't it lovely!

Snapshots Quilt Along with the Fat Quarter Shop!

The Fat Quarter Shop has launched it's 2015 Snapshots Quilt Along to benefit the 

 

Each month on the 15th they will post a new block on their BLOG!  Moda has designed a fabric collection called Daysail by Bonnie and Camille that the original quilt is made from.  All that the Fat Quarter Shop asks, is when you download each block from their blog, that you donate 5.00 to St. Jude's. The Fat Quarter Shop and Moda will both match all donations made during the fundraiser up to 10,000.00 each!

The Daysail Collection by Bonnie and Camille will not be available until sometime in February and I wanted to get the first block made pronto so I received the Miss Kate Collection by Bonnie and Camille that has very similar colors.  I will probably have to get the Daysail Collection as well but both bundles will play so nicely together. :)

This is my block #1 - Let Them Eat cake

 

Each Snapshot block will tell a different story for each individual quilt maker who takes part in the sew along.  As you can see the cake itself has more red for my block but I love strawberry cake! It is my favorite cake of all.. and with strawberry cream cheese icing to boot.

As far as birthday cake memories, one stands out in my mind and it isn't even one of my birthday's.  It is my oldest sister Charlotte's cake.  The cake was decorated with lavender tinted frosting and had a dancing ballerina figurine on top.  

I don't remember eating the cake, I just remember what it looked like. :)

Bedroom Ensemble For My Daughter

While we were in Alabama for Christmas,  I did some sewing for my daughter and her hubby. This ensemble is for the master suite in their new home. They are getting a king size bed so this was made for it.... we have it showing on their queen for the photos.

Before we left on the trip I took one day and quilted her bedspread and throw for the foot of the bed but I did not get them bound.  That was a job I finished once I got there.   I quilted the Kona Coal Gray bedspread with a chevron design on my Gammill longarm and added a gray corduroy backing.  The throw at the foot of the bed is made of lightweight custom fabric for drapes and/or upholstery.  I quilted straight lines across it on the longarm. It is backed with a solid color of the same type fabric to pull out the gold-like color.

We decided to make 3 queen size pillow shams instead of 2  king size shams.  It really does look much better this way.  We wanted to pull the fabrics in the curtains down to the bed so we opted to make the 2 larger throw pillows from those Kona fabrics.... Kona Bone and Kona Curry.  The drapes are fully lined using the Kona Bone fabric.


This color scheme is not one I usually work in but I love the way it looks now that it is all completed.

Welcome To My New Blog!

I began blogging in 2007 under the name of Pig Tales and Quilts at the gentle nudging of my friend Bonnie Minor.  In 2009 I lost my blog somehow and had to start over.  The name for my blog came about because my husband and I collect Catawba Valley Pottery from Western North Carolina and we have tried to collect a pig from each of our favorite potters. I wanted to showcase the pottery on the blog so hence the name, Pig Tales and Quilts.

Fast forward 7 years and although I was hesitant at first to change my name to Stitch and Quilt, the reason I finally gave in was because we no longer avidly collect pottery and the "pig tales" had fallen few and far between.  It was time for a new name.

I tried to piggyback off of the old platform of Pig Tales and Quilts so I would not lose my followers but I ended up doing so anyway. And then I got locked out of my blog completely and could not sign in any longer.  I hope in time to build my audience back up to where it was as my followers find me here on the new blog.

Please come along as I share my love for family, quilting, needlework, and crazy quilting.
